when i grow up....

I want to be one of those ladies who lunches. You know the ones who don't actually work, but wear business suits to really nice restaurants and meet their friends for a three hour power lunch session.

How great would that be? You get to talk about how society is falling to pieces, which restaurant has awesome mid-afternoon cocktails, and where you plan to meet for lunch next (all based on who has the best mid-afternoon cocktails of course).

Ahhhh... maybe one day. Now I just need a sponsor. Matt doesn't quite condone my next career choice, so I might be on my own for this one. If only I could win like the noble prize or something, then maybe somebody would be willing to cover the tab.

maid for hire

Somewhere along the way, I developed this horrible habit of obsessing over the cleanliness of my home before I travel. With our trip to the Caribbean a little over a week away, I have scrambled into DEFCON 1 as far as housekeeping is concerned. I have never been able to leave my apartment on vacation without knowing that every single piece of clothing, food, and furniture is in it's place. Along with making sure the floors are swept, mopped, waxed, buffed, and lacquered among other things.

I can't decide if this is all attributed to my absolute worst fear that one single insect will penetrate my forcefield of bleach, Pine-sol, Lysol and anti-bacterial products. At which point then that very same insect, will go tell his million and one other insect friends how perfect our apartment is for infesting, so I can come home and find my cat tied to a bed post while ants march around him in victory.

Or maybe; it's just the fact that as a child I was subjected to brutal Saturday afternoon chores which consisted of using a soft toothbrush and Q-tips to polish all the furniture in the house. Funny now that I'm an adult; I actually enjoy this past time and do in on occasion to relieve stress. Scary... I know.

Below is a list of the random items that need to be accomplished before we leave on vacation. Obviously this list would be much easier to accomplish if Matt where here to help. Unfortunately though he is indisposed at the moment, being that he decided to take a vacation to Atlantic City before our vacation to the Caribbean. Should he come home with a wad of single dollar bills and smelling of strippers, his next vacation will consist of a brief getaway to the local hospital after I break his arm. But really, maybe it will be a couple of fingers after I accidently slam the door shut on them. If anything I deserve the greatest girlfriend award for allowing him to sneak off with the guys, while I tackle his laundry and dry cleaning.

With that; I must leave you now, so I can strap on my hazmat suit and handle the biology experiment that is currently taking place in my kitchen sink.

Half Empty or Half Full

At some point you have to ask yourself; "Is it all worth it in the end?". You do everything within your own control, but it can never be enough. How much do you have to give of yourself before someone can finally be satisfied?

Lately I've been pretty absorbed in the minutiae of work and the more I push paper, the more I start to realize nobody really cares until their ass is on the line. What happens when we become so overwhelmed by the little things, that we fail to recognize the bigger picture?

This won't matter in the end.

Somewhere along the way it seems as though I have lost sight of the true meaning in what I do and who I am. I can only hope to be a vessel, and be grateful for what I have been given.
